Mark and Vicki have been making and selling kids' toys and wooden furniture for over 15 years. And Mark's Toys has grown as their relationship has evolved. Both Mark and Vicki saw (and despised) the growing trend of low quality, imported children's toys and furniture flooding the market; they knew they could offer quality handcrafted kids' wooden toys and furniture made right here in New Zealand at reasonable prices.
Mark and Vicki are committed to delivering high quality products for children and great customer service. They understand that their customers are their biggest asset. "We started with absolutely nothing. In the beginning, every sale went right back into buying timber. A circular saw and a drill were the only power tools that we had. My workbench was the trailer pushed into the garage with a sheet of timber over the top. We didn't get any help from anyone. Everything we sold we put back into buying tools and timber. And now we're where we are – and while it was hard work, we couldn't have done it without the support of New Zealand parents, grandparents and daycares who believe in the importance of quality, handcrafted wooden toys designed with their children in mind."
Mark says that the business would never have taken off without the inspiration and support of his father. Mark was diagnosed with muscular dystrophy when he was about five years old, and remembers his dad saying, "Don't just sit on your behind and do nothing. Just because you have a disability doesn't mean you are not an ordinary person." Mark says Mark's Toys wouldn't be where it is today if it wasn't for dad.
